How the AI room editor works

Three steps, and you decide what changes.

1

Upload a room photo and paint the area to change

Use the brush on a sofa, a wall, a floor, a corner that needs a lamp — anything. Undo, redo and an eraser let you fix the selection before you spend credits. With a free account you can paint up to 4 areas and describe each one.

2

Say what should be there, or attach a reference

Write one short note ("walnut plank floor", "add a reading chair") or attach a photo of the exact item. You can use both.

3

Get the edit, then keep going

The AI blends the change into the room, shadows and reflections included. Happy with it? Download it — or, with a free account, keep editing the result to change the next thing.

What you can change

Swap furniture

Paint the old sofa, attach a photo of the one you are considering, and see it in your own room.

Recolor or restyle a piece

Change a sofa, cabinet or wall colour and finish without repainting the whole scene.

Change a material

Try a different floor, countertop or backsplash inside the area you paint.

Add something new

Paint an empty corner and describe what belongs there — a plant, a lamp, a rug.

What we promise — and what to expect

Aimed at your selection, rendered in the context of the whole room

The AI sees your whole room

Your brush tells the AI where to change things, and it works with the full photo in view, so a new item gets matching light, perspective, shadows and reflections instead of looking pasted in.

Fine details elsewhere can shift

The AI re-renders the image, so small objects, textures or wall art outside your brush can look slightly different. Switch to Original to compare, and edit again if something matters.

Up to 4 areas per edit

Members can paint several areas and describe each one separately. The AI may skip an area whose note is vague, so name the object in every note, and re-run if one is missed. Every result also stays in your Versions strip, so you can branch from any earlier step.

Good to know
  • The AI adds shadows and reflections around the new item on its own. For the cleanest edges, paint the whole object, including its borders.
  • A reference photo guides the look, shape and material of the item. Small details such as exact trims or stitching may differ.
  • Edits usually take about a minute. If one fails, the credits are refunded automatically.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI room editor?

It lets you change part of a room photo with AI instead of regenerating the whole room. You paint the area you want to change, describe the result or attach a reference photo, and the edit is aimed at that area.

How is this different from redesigning a whole room?

A room redesign restyles everything at once. The region editor starts from your photo and aims the change at the part you painted, which is what you want when you like the room but not one piece of it.

Will the rest of my photo change?

Mostly not. The room layout, furniture and lighting stay in place, but the AI re-renders the whole image, so fine details outside your selection, like small objects, wall art or text, can look slightly different. Switch between Edited and Original to compare.

Can I use a reference image?

Yes, once you have a free account. Attach one photo of the item you want — for example a product photo of a sofa or a light fixture — and the painted area is edited to match it. You can also add a short note to guide placement or colour. The free no-account edit works from a text note only.

Can I edit more than one area?

Yes, if you have a free account. Paint one area, choose "Add another area", and describe each area in its own note — up to 4 areas in a single edit. Name the object in each note, like "replace the rug with a charcoal wool rug", so the right thing changes. Reference photos work with one area at a time, and the free no-account edit is limited to one area. Every result is kept in a Versions strip for the session, so you can also continue from any earlier version.

How much does it cost and how long does it take?

An edit costs 4 credits for one area, plus 2 for each extra area (up to 4 areas, 10 credits at most), and usually takes about a minute. If an edit fails, the credits are refunded automatically. Your first edit each day is free without an account — it includes a small watermark. After that, sign up free to edit without a watermark.

Which photos work best?

Eye-level, well-lit JPG, PNG or WebP photos up to 20 MB. Paint the whole object you want changed, including its edges, for the cleanest blend.

Can I use edited photos in a real estate listing?

Many listing platforms and MLS boards require you to disclose digitally altered photos, show the original next to the edited one, and forbid hiding defects. Some, such as CRMLS and NorthstarMLS, also don't allow changes to permanent features like wall colour or flooring in listing photos, so furniture edits are the safer use. Check your local rules and keep the original photo on file.
